Read to Scotia

German Shepherd Dog, Scotia, with her Reading to Rover scarf

Scotia invites children to the Reading to Rover program at the Daniel Boone Regional Library, Columbia, MO, second Monday of each month, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Here is a 20-second video promotion we created to promote the Reading to Rover program at the Daniel Boone Regional Library.  Our German Shepherd, Scotia, is one of the dogs that attend the monthly program, second Monday of each month, 5:30 –  7:30 pm.  [Scotia gave us a wink during a holiday picture taking session.  We just had to use that photo in some way — thus this promotional spot.

Mark your calendar for January classes

Mither’s scarf is a reminder of the season and of the start of classes after the holiday break.  We plan to resume classes the week of January 6th; however, because of the snow and severe cold, we will not hold the first classes on Monday, the 6th.  Details of the postponement here.  Here is the regular weekly schedule.

Hey, it’s about time for classes to resume.

This dog provides impressive service

In this story, Robert Gill describes how his service dog has permitted him to live independently with some severe handicaps including frequent seizures.  His dog has learned to respond differently to emergencies depending on where they happen.    The Canadian organization that trained his dog has graduated some 150 service dogs. It identifies Labs, Goldens and Poodles as the preferred breeds for service work.

We’ve all had this experience

At the time for the family holiday picture we’ve been on one side or the other of this admonition process.  Here Professor Kelly ‘advises’ Jesse — “Now, stay!”  And he did. Here is  the payoff of that from the professor.

Now, stay…and smile for the photographer!

Hear a young boy describe the impact his service dog has

Here is a first person account from a young Alabama boy with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism.  He and his father describe the impact a service dog has had on the boy’s life experiences.

In this TV story you can see how the lad interacts with his dog and what the boy had planned as a Christmas gift for his companion.  Details here:  http://goo.gl/vNc7Io

A Christmas wish from our chilly dog

Here’s a warm wish for this holiday from us to you and your family.  Just found the combination outside our school as the pre-Christmas ice was just beginning to melt from the roof of the dog school.
